Bronx, N.Y. - The Lehman College baseball team used a 4-2 victory over Farmingdale State to improve to 14-14 on the season. Emmanuel Velasquez tossed a complete game for the Lightning to earn the win and move to 4-4 on the year. He allowed just one earned run and struck out six in the win.
Lehman scored a run in the first to go up, 1-0. Rob Kiernan walked and stole second. He moved to third on a wild pitch. David Rodriguez later singled and drove in Kiernan.
The Lightning doubled the score the very next inning. With two outs, Euriel Murray walked, Kiernan was hit by a pitch and Michael Zerbo walked. During Zerbo's at-bat, Murray came in on a wild pitch. The Rams pulled within a run at 2-1, after pushing one across in the fourth. Lehman would seal the win with a pair in the sixth.
Carlo Francisco and Nomar Garcia reached on consecutive singles. Later, the pitcher tried to pick Francisco off second, but threw the ball into center, allowing Francisco to score and Garcia get to third. Julius Puryear picked up an RBI single later in the inning.
Farmingdale State scored an unearned run in the eighth, but Lehman went on to win, 4-2. Garcia led the team with two hits. Murray scored twice. Zerbo had three walks.
The Lehman College baseball team returns to action on Friday, April 20, when they face Old Westbury at 2PM on Long Island.
