Lightning Let One Get Away

The Lehman College baseball team fell to Old Westbury 10-9 in 10 innings early today to earn a split in the series this year.  Ten days ago, Lehman defeated the Panthers 12-5.

Lehman (14-15) jumped in front scoring seven runs in the third as the Lightning batted 11 in the frame. Anthony Riley singled to center field and moved to second after a Euriel Murray walk.  Mike Zerbo was able to reach on an error which scored Riley.  Julius Puryear then singled through the left side scoring Murray.  Zerbo then scored on a ground out.  David Rodriguez and Nathanael Toribio knocked back to back singles that scored Puryear and Rodriguez.  Carlo Francisco than tripled to right center plating Rodriguez and Toribio and he later scored on a wild pitch.  The Panthers got two back in the third.  However Lehman answered with one run in the fourth.  Lehman loaded the bases on a Zerbo wallk and back to back singles by Puryear and Vargas.  Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice which plated Zerbo.  The score remained 8-2 until the home half of the six when the Panthers were able to score two runs on three hits.  Each team plated a run in the seventh to make the score 9-5. Old Westbury (13-13-1) rallied in the ninth to score four forcing extra innings.  In the home half of the tenth, the Panthers drew a one-out walk and scored the deciding run after a sacrifice to earn revenge and take the win.

Five Lightning players had multi hits; Puryear, Vargas, Toribio, Francisco and Riley.  Francisco was also credited with three RBI.

The Lightning return to action on Sunday as they travel to Poughkeepsie to play a double header against Vassar.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
