The Lehman College men's volleyball team fell 3-1 to Hunter (19-9:8-0) in the final CUNYAC match of the season.
Lehman (14-15:4-4) dropped the first set 25-21 before rallying to take the second by the identical score. However, the Hawks took the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-21. Felipe Velanida and Yaw Eshun paced the Lightning with 18 and 11 kills respectively. George Montilla was credited with 43 assists.
The opening set was a back and forth affair. With the score tied at 16, the Hawks ran off four straight points to take control. Lehman battled back to trail 22-21 but the Hawks scored the final three points of the set to earn the victory. In the second set, the Lightning jumped out to a 5-1 lead. Hunter battled back to take an 11-10 lead, however the Lightning would score the next five points to take a 15-11 advantage. The Hawks were able to knot the score at 17. With the score tied at 18, Lehman would go on a 5-1 run to take control. The teams traded points the rest of the way leveling the match at 1-1. In the third with the score tied at 8, Hunter would go on a 6-0 from which the Lightning could not recover from. The fourth set, was another back and forth affair. With the score tied at 20, the Hawks scored the next four points and earned the hard fought victory.
Lehman returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Sage to face the Gators and NJCU in the regular season finale tri-match. Action gets under way at 11 AM.
