Lightning Fall to Montclair 6-4 on the Baseball Diamond

Montclair, NJ - The Lehman College baseball team (10-13) fell to the Red Hawks of Montclair State (16-8) 6-4 in a non-league game earlier today.

Lehman jumped out on top 1-0 in the third as Carlo Francisco led off the frame with a single up the middle.  He was moved to second on a Mike Zerbo sacrifice and scored on a Julius Puryear single up the middle.  The Red Hawks answered right back in their half as back to back to back singles plated their first run.  In the fourth  the Lightning loaded the bases on a single by Namir Garcia, Rob Kiernan walk and a hit by pitch to Murray.  Francisco was able to reach on an error and Zerbo drew a walk to give the Lightning a 3-1 advantage.  However, Montclair would once again answer back.  The Hawks loaded the bases on a walk and a pair of hit batsman before a R. Lombardo single plated a run.  Lehman was then able to induce a text book double play ball but a run scored to tie the game at 3 after three innings.  The score remained the same until the seventh when the Hawks plated three runs on three hits to go ahead 6-3.  The Lightning were able to manufacture a run in the eighth after Kiernan led off with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error.  He later scored on a ground out but the Lightning were unable to get any closer.

Manny Velasquez picked up the loss allowing five runs in 6.2 innings.  He is now 3-3 on the season.

The Lightning return to action Tuesday afternoon.  Lehman will host Old Westbury at 4:00 PM on the South Field.
