Men’s Soccer Lose Home Opener To Purchase

Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker at home to Purchase College of Skyline Conference, 2-1 in sudden death overtime on Thursday evening at South Field.  The lost gives the Lightning a 2-3 record, while the Panthers improve to 1-2-1.

Purchase took a 1-0 lead in 19th minute-mark with a goal from senior midfielder Oliver Dubreus off an assist from sophomore midfielder Thomas Browne.

Lehman battled back and got the equalizer in the 57th minute when senior forward Salh Alzubidi scored his third goal of season off a pass from sophomore midfielder Eduardo Victorio.

An even match for the remainder of 90 minutes with the Lightning just edging out the Panthers on total shots 8-7 (6-6 on goal), with junior goalkeeper Chris Mulholland having to make four key saves for hosts.

The encounter went to overtime deadlock at 1-1.  Then, just five minutes into the first OT, freshman forward Rakiem Daley notched the game-winner for Purchase.

The Lightning will travel to Kings Point, N.Y. as they square off against United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday at 1 pm.
