Tommy Batista led a Lightning second half comeback, but Lehman (6-10:4-5) could not hold on and get revenge for an early season loss falling 65-63 to John Jay (10-7:5-4) spoiling Lehman's Homecoming.
The Lightning featured a balanced scoring attack as Batista,
Isaiah Geathers,
Andre Hampton and
Miguel Haboosh all netted double figures. Batista scored 12 points, nine of which came in the second half to spark the Lightning to a 15-0 run to start the second half erasing a 13 point half time deficit. Geathers tallied 13 points and Hampton record another double double, his fifth of the season, with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Haboosh led the squad with 21 points. Â
With the Bloodhounds leading 25-19, John Jay went on a 12-2 run in the first half to take control of the contest. However, the Lightning battled back eventually knotting he score at 37 after a Geathers jumper. Thirty second later a Haboosh lay-up gave the Lightning their first lead since the opening minutes of the contest. The game was still tied with two minutes to play after the Bloodhounds Romello Ford converted a traditional three-point paly. Haboosh answered with a jumper 15 seconds later but the lead was short lived as Jerome Petty drained a three-pointer seconds later to give John Jay the lead they would not surrender. The Lightning had multiple chances in the waning seconds but could not find the range. John Jay's Doug Levy converted 1-2 free throws with .9 seconds remaining and a Lightning desperation shot at the buzzer fell short.
Batista was given the Ed Kramer Award in a post game ceremony, as the Lehman College MVP in the homecoming contest. In a pre-game ceremony Lehman honored Hall of Famer and Baruch College head coach Ray Rankis '75. At halftime, Lehman also recognized the 25th Anniversary of the 1993-94 squad that was crowned CUNYAC North Champions.
Lehman returns to action on Wednesday night as they travel to Brooklyn to face Medgar Evers College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 PM.Â
