Bronx, NY - The Lightning (6-12:4-7) got in early foul trouble and could not dig themselves out of the hole they created falling 89-79 to York (7-13:3-8) in a game that definitely had play-off implications.
Isaiah Geathers,
Andre Hampton and
Gabe Cepeda all had three early first half fouls.
Lehman trailed by six points early but rallied despite all the foul trouble, knotting the game at 20. A lay-up by York's Maliqe John with 4:26 to play in the half capped off an 8-0 run giving the Cardinals a 38-28 lead. The Lightning were able to cut the deficit to five before the Cardinals took a 47-39 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Lightning were able to cut the lead to five eight minutes into the second half after a
Mo Idrissou lay-up. However an 8-2 run by York quickly brought the lead back up to double figures. The Cardinals pushed the lead to 14, 75-61 their largest of the night, with eight minutes to play. Lehman was able to cut the lead to six after
Will Feldman drained a pair of free throws with 1:06 remaining. However the Lightning were unable to get any closer.
Hampton led the Lightning with 21 points. Geathers and
Xavier Boyd added 15 and 11 respectively. The Cardinals were led by John's 24 points.
By the numbers……
The Lightning shot 45% from the field (27-60) while the Cardinals shot 52% (28-54). From the foul line Lehman 16-28 (57%) while the Cardinals were 23-30 (77%).
The Lightning return to action and seek revenge on the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 PM.
