Bronx, N.Y. – In a battle for first-place in CUNYAC Standings on Saturday, the Lehman College men's soccer team came out on top after a 1-0 overtime victory against visiting Baruch College on Saturday at South Field, thanks to midfielder
Christian Rodriguez notching the game-winner.
The Lightning improve to 9-4 overall ledger and are in sole possession of first-place in CUNYAC with 4-1 mark. Meanwhile, the Bearcats fall to 6-7-1 record and are now second in the conference standings at 4-2.
After an intense and physical encounter that saw a combined total of 38 team fouls (Baruch – 20; Lehman 18), it remained scoreless for 90 minutes due to six key saves by Bearcats goalkeeper Kellen Sela.
Sela made another crucial save in the first sudden death overtime period off a bicycle kick by Lightning forward Ebenezer Otto.
However at the 107
th minute-mark, Rodriguez scored his first Lehman goal off a header from midfielder
Troy Callahan which his shot from 12 yards out beat Sela for the 1-0 win.
The Lightning continue their home stand next Wednesday (October 16
th) when they take on U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in a non-conference encounter at South Field.
