Brooklyn, NY - The Lehman College men's soccer team defeated Medgar Evers 4-1 earlier today in a contest played at Kingsbourgh Community College.
For the third time in four years the Lightning (11-4:6-1) have been crowned CUNYAC regular season champions. As the number one seed in the upcoming CUNYAC post season tournament, Lehman has a first round bye and will host the winner of the (#4) Brooklyn - (#5) John Jay match-up slated for next Wednesday. Lehman will host the winner in the semi-finals on November 2.
Lehman got on the board in the 11th minute when Ebenezer Otoo converted a pass from Marcos Garcia. In the 23rd minute the Lightning doubled their advantage when Mubarak Ouro stole a ball from a Cougar defender and buried it in the back of the net. A minute later Joel Arevalo cracked a volley past the Cougar goalkeeper to give the Lightning a 3-0 lead at halftime. Nine minutes into the second half Lehman made it 4-0 as Adewale Adewusi delivered a long ball to Ouro for his second tally of the match. Medgar Evers (1-13:0-7) converted a penalty kick in the 64th minute to avoid the shutout.
Demiraldo Grunasi went the entire 90 minutes in the net and was credited with a pair of saves. The Lightning out shot the Cougars 23-4 and held an 11-2 advantage in corners.
Lehman will now have 10 days off to recuperate before hosting the semi-finals on Saturday, November 2.
