Lightning Upend CCNY....Secure a Spot in the CUNYAC Tournament

Bronx, NY - Isaiah Geathers recorded his seventh double double of the season to lead the Lightning to an 83-71 victory over City College (6-19:6-10).  With the win, Lehman (9-16:6-10) secured a spot in the CUNYAC post-season tournament which gets underway Saturday.

Lehman also got solid performances from Miguel Haboosh (17 points), Xavier Boyd and Tommy Batista (10 points apiece) as well as a nine point, 15 rebounds effort from Andre Hampton

With the game tied at 14, the Lightning went on a 14-3 run to take control.  During the spurt Boyd and Geathers each had five points.  Lehman was able to extend their advantage to 15 before settling on a 44-31 lead at intermission when Haboosh  hit another buzzer beater three to end the half.

Haboosh raced down the left side of the court and promptly drained a three pointer as the half time buzzer blew to give Lehman a 44-31 lead at the break.  It was the second time in two weeks that Haboosh hit a three pointer as the buzzer sounded.  Although not as dramatic tonight, against Brooklyn he hit a three-quarter court shot at the buzzer to give the Lightning an overtime win.

Here is tonight's shot

In the second half the Lightning again were able to extend the lead to 18 points on several occasions, however the Beavers would not roll over cutting the Lightning lead to nine twice late in the half but could not get any closer.

Romello Rashad led the Beavers with 18 points.

The Lightning will play either John Jay or Brooklyn on Saturday in the opening round of the CUNYAC Tournament. Match-ups will be formally announced tomorrow.
