The Lehman College baseball team defeated the CCNY Beavers 8-3 to improve to 10-22:4-6 on the season while the Beavers fell to 10-18:5-5.
In a rare 7 PM start Saturday night in a game played at Purchase College the Lightning jumped on top in the first.Â
Jeremmy Santos led off the game with a single to second and two batters later scored on a
Namir Garcia two bagger down the left field line. The game stayed 1-0 until the home half of the sixth when the Beavers plated two on a pair of hits including a triple by Hamley Volquez. Lehman answered in the seventh with a three spot as Garcia laced a double to left field clearing the bases to take a 4-2 lead. In the home eighth, CCNY got one back to cut the deficit in half. However the Lightning exploded in the top of the ninth with four more runs for the final margin of victory. With the bases loaded once again Rob Kiernan singles to left to score
Geraldo Rodriguez and
Sal Ventola. Garcia then delivered a sacrifice fly to right scoring Santos. Three batters later
Emmanuel Frias singled home Kiernan for the games final run.Â
Jarret Oehler sent the Beavers down in order in the ninth to record the complete game victory. The lefty struck out 13 and improved to 5-3 on the season. Â
The Lightning pounded out 12 nights on the night. Three by Kiernan, two by Santos, Garcia and Ventola. Garcia was credited with a season high five RBIs. Â
The two schools are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Lehman's South Field on Monday afternoon.
