Bronx, NY - Despite 20 points from
Isaiah Geathers and 15 from
Gian Batista the Lightning came out on the short end of a 55-51 decision against Hunter (2-13:2-3) in a CUNYAC affair contested in the Lehman College APEX. The loss snaps a Lehman (8-6:3-2) seven game winning streak.
The first half was a back and forth affair with neither team having a lead more than three points until the final minutes of the half. Lehman ended the half on an 8-2 run to take a 26-21 lead into the locker room. The five point lead was the largest advantage either team had during the opening 20 minutes.
In the second half the Hawks quickly knotted the game at 28 after Danny Fusco made one of two free throws with 17:43 remaining. The Hawks took the lead for good at the 13:50 mark when Judah McIntyre drained a pair of free throws to give the Hawks a 35-34 advantage. The Hawks were able to stretch the lead to seven (51-44) with but could not put the Lightning away. Lehman had two chances to tie or take the lead in the final minute but a turnover and missed three pointer prevented the Lightning comeback.
The Lightning return to action on Wednesday night as they travel to Staten Island to face the Dolphins. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
