Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team won its home opener of 2020 campaign after taking three straight sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-15) against non-conference rival College of Mount St. Vincent at The APEX Main Gym on Friday evening.
The Lightning improve to 1-2 record, while the Dolphins fall to 0-1 mark.
After taking the first set, Lehman trailed in the second game 6-2 before coach
Jessica Fider took a timeout to regroup. Then, the Lightning went on a 23 to 13 run to take the second set. The Dolphins continued to struggle in the third set as they trailed 16-9 before needing to take a time out to talk things over. However, the Lightning held on for the victory its first since April 10, 2018.
Peter Veljovic led the offense for the hosts with seven kills and three service aces, while
Amari Blake added a Lehman-best six kills and five blocks.
Mentor Mahmuti dished out 17 assists along with his three kills for the Lightning, while
Christian Agudo grabbed a career-high 13 digs.
Lehman returns to action next Wednesday (January 29
th) when it takes a short trip to Bronxville, N.Y. to take on non-conference rival Sarah Lawrence College at 6 pm.
