Bronx, NY - The Lehman College men's basketball team treated the homecoming crowd to an 83-70 victory in the APEX Saturday afternoon. With the victory Lehman improves to 11-7:6-2 while the Cougars fall to 5-13:2-6.
Isaiah Geathers paced the Lightning with 27 points on 13-21 shooting.
Gian Batista also had a strong game scoring 24 points with grabbing nine assists and dishing out a career high 12 assists; equaling a mark he set against Medgar Evers earlier this season. For his efforts Batista was named the Homecoming MVP and recipient of the ED Kramer Memorial Award. Mo Idrisoou ended the game with 18 points, 11 of which came in the second half.
The Lightning trailed by one, 46-45 with 12:10 remaining and went on an 8-1 to take a lead they would not they would not relinquish. During that spurt
Gian Batista and Geathers netted four apiece. Medgar Evers cut the lead to two 55-53 with 9:24. Still clinging to a two point lead with 8:36 to play, the Lightning went on a 9-0 run to push the lead to double figures for the first time. During that run
Gian Batista tallied five points. The Cougars got the lead down to eight but never seriously threatened.
Lehman returns to action on Tuesday night as they travel to Manhattan for a rematch with John Jay. Earlier in the season, the Bloodhounds defeated the Lightning in the CUNYAC opener for both schools.
