Nina Gill scored a career-high 46 points to lead the Lehman College women's basketball team to a 76-71 victory against hosts Medgar Evers College in a CUNYAC encounter on Saturday at Cougars Cave. The win is the first for the Lightning this season (1-11; 1-2 CUNYAC), while the Cougars drop to 1-7 record and 0-2 in conference play.
Lehman held a 38-33 lead after two quarters with Gill notching 24 of her points in the first half. In the second stanza, the Lightning continued to hold their grounds shooting 45 percent from the field, while Cougars struggled hitting 28 % from the floor.
Despite fouling out with four minutes remaining in the last quarter, Gill also grabbed a Lehman-best 16 rebounds as her remaining teammates held on for the win which ended a 29-game losing skid.
Guard
Fatomata Trawalleh had 18 points, five rebounds and four assists, while forward
Valeria Rojas Alingue added four assists along with a career-best 23 rebounds for the Lightning.
Lehman will be back in Brooklyn next Wednesday (January 8
th) when it faces CUNYAC rival Brooklyn College at 5 pm.
