New York, NY – The Lehman College (14-9:8-4) men's basketball team extended their winning streak to three with a 79-73 road victory over Hunter (8-14:7-5). The victory gives the Lightning sole possession of second place in the CUNYAC. The victory also gives the Lightning revenge from an early season loss to the Hawks (55-51).
For the second game in a row,
Isaiah Geathers netted a career high. His 34 points bested his previous high of 31 which was recorded this past Friday night against Staten Island. Earlier today, Geathers, a Bronx native was named CUNYAC Player of the Week. Geathers line for the night included 12-19 from the floor, 2-5 from long range, a perfect 8-8 from the line to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
Gian Batista chipped in 14 points and
Tommy Batista added 12.
The Lightning scored the first six points of the night and never looked back. A put back by
Alex Hanson, a layup by
Tommy Batista and a pair of Geathers foul shots started the Lehman on the path to victory. After a three-pointer by the Hawks, the Lightning ran off 10 straight capped with a
Gian Batista three to make the score 16-3 with 14:12 to play in the half. The Lightning extended the lead to 19 (34-15) after a Geathers three pointer to give Lehman their biggest lead of the night. Lehman settled on 40-23 lead at the half.
The Hawks cut the lead to five late in the game but Lehman made their foul shots. The Lightning converted 10-11 free throws in the final seven minutes to help preserve the victory. Lehman shot an impressive 17-18 from the line, their best foul shooting performance of the season.
Lehman returns to action Saturday afternoon with their final regular season road contest at Baruch. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 PM.
