Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College swimming team earned a split during its home season opener against non-conference opponent Purchase on Monday at The APEX Pool as the women's side won 74-71, while the men's squad lost 66-52.
Ofelia Valadez led the way for the Lightning women (1-1) over the Panthers (0-6) as she won the 100 and 200 Freestyles clocking in at 1:10.63 and 2:43.84, respectively. Valadez also claimed first place in the 100 Breaststroke (1:31.33), while
Patricia Gonzalez won the 200 IM (3:15.28).
Meanwhile,
Carlos Alonso paced the Lehman men (0-1) against Purchase (1-4) as he claimed the gold in 200 Freestyle at a time of 2:20.23. Alonso was also part of the 200 Freestyle Relay winning side along with Roger Rojas,
Brendan McManus and
Manuel Nunez as they clocked in at 2:31.70.
The Lightning are back in action this Saturday with another twin-bill home meet against non-conference rival Western Connecticut State at noon.
