Box Score Bronx, N.Y. - The Lehman College women's tennis team closed out their fall season with an 8-1 win over the York College-NY on Tuesday afternoon at The APEX courts. The Lightning conclude the campaign with a 2-9 record, while the Cardinals drop to an 0-6 mark.
The teams were scheduled to play a CUNYAC match earlier in the season, however the conference ultimately awarded a forfeit to Lehman when the match could not be rescheduled before the cutoff date.
The Lightning got quick wins at #1 and #2 doubles when
Joanna Rosario, teamed with CUNYAC Rookie of the Year
Viola Avdyli to take the top flight, 8-0, while
Rita Rosario and Kayla Jollivett took #2 by a score of 8-1.
The third doubles match was another matter entirely with the Cardinals taking by a score of 8-7.
Ann Marie Baliong and
Effie Pang dropped the #3 flight tiebreaker, 7-4.
In singles,
Rita Rosario kept things moving in the right direction for the Lightning with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #3 singles. Her sister,
Joanna Rosario, followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2.
Viola Avdyli took the top singles match for Lehman, 6-2, 6-3 to close out the victory.
With the match decided, freshman
Effie Pang took #5 singles in a pro set, 8-1.
Kayla Jolivett closed out #4 moments later, 8-0 and
Ann Marie Baliong won at #6 as the sun set on the APEX, 8-3.
