Gian Batista was an assist shy (nine) of a 'triple-double' on Friday evening as he scored 22 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Lehman College men's basketball to a 90-83 CUNYAC victory against the hosts Medgar Evers College at Cougars Cave.
The Lightning improve to a 12-2 overall ledger and 6-1 in CUNYAC action, while the Cougars drop to 4-11 record and 1-5 in conference play.
After 41-40 advantage by Medgar Evers at the intermission, Lehman outscored the hosts 11 to 9 four minutes into the second stanza to take a 51-50 lead and never trailed after that.
The Lightning shot 52 percent in the second half as they led by as many as 16 points (72-56) midway through.
Medgar Evers went on a 26 to 12 run that cut the Lehman advantage to two (84-82) with 1:24 remaining. However, the Lightning outscored the Cougars 6 to 1 to close out the half and earn their seventh road victory of the season.
Along with Batista, the Lehman offense was paced by
Marquese Johnson who scored a career-high 18 points as did
Cesar Fernandez with 12, while
Mo Idrissou and
Juan Fernandez each added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Lightning return The APEX Main Gym next Tuesday for another CUNYAC encounter as they take on Hunter College at 7 pm ET.
