Bronx, NY - The Lehman men's basketball rallied to defeat Brooklyn 71-54 before a raucous crowd in the APEX Saturday afternoon. The win propels the Lightning to the CUNYAC Semifinals on Wednesday night.
In the first half, Lehman struggled shooting only 23% from the field and getting out-rebounded 22-17 and found themselves trailing 32-21. But Coach Schulman gave one of his patented half time speeches and rallied his players. Lehman opened the half on a 10-0 and by the 16:43 mark, the game was tied at 34 after
Mo Idrissou converted a traditional three-point play. The Lightning took their first lead of the contest since a since the game's opening minute start 36-34 also on an Idrissou lay-up. By the 14:40 mark Lehman had gone on a 23-4 run.
The Lightning completely turned things around in the final 20 minutes shooting an impressive 61 % from the field including 8-13 from behind the arc. Meanwhile on the defensive end they limited the Bulldogs to just 22 points. The Bulldogs trimmed the lead to seven, 53-46 with just under 10 minutes to play but the Lightning immediately went on a 7-0 run five of which were credited to Idrissou, to regain control and were never seriously threatened the rest of the way.
Mo Idrissou led the way with a career high 27 points, 24 of which were in the second half.
Isaiah Geathers netted 17 while
Gian Batista added 13 points.
Lennox DeGrasse equaled his season high with 11 rebounds while playing a season high 29 minutes.
The Lightning will move onto the CUNYAC Semifinals on Wednesday night against the winner of Sunday's Hunter /John Jay contest. Wednesday's game will tip-off at 6 PM in the APEX.
