Lightning Baseball Split Doubleheader With Bloodhounds

Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team won the opener of CUNYAC doubleheader with visiting John Jay College, 10-1, on Friday at South Field, however it dropped the nightcap 13-10.  The Lightning go to a 6-9 overall record and 4-4 in CUNYAC action, while the Bloodhounds move to a 5-23 mark and 3-5 in conference play.

After John Jay took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the opner, Lehman scored four times in the bottom half and never trailed after that as the team added six more for the victory.  Nomar Rijo led the way for the Lightning as he was double shy of the cycle as he had a single, triple and a home run, while driving in three RBI and scoring twice.  Erik Then also added three RBI while going two-for-three and Jeremmy Santos also homered as he went three-for-four with two RBI.  Randy Polanco pitched 6.1 innings and struck out eight batters for the victory on the mound.

In the nightcap, John Jay jumped out to a 11-3 lead after three and half innings of play.  Lehman scored three times in the bottom half to cut the deficit, however John Jay added two more in the top of the sixth for a 13-6 advantage.  Trailing 13-7 going the bottom of the seventh, the Lightning battled back and got three runs, however John Jay held on for the victory.  Glennd Jarrin paced the offense for Lehman going two-for-four with three RBI, while Kevin Arias went two-for-four with a homer and RBI.

Lehman is back in action on Thursday when it hosts non-conference rival College at Old Westbury at South Field.
