Lightning Sweep Beavers

Bronx, N.Y.  – Two-for-two on the diamond field went the Lehman College baseball team as it swept a CUNYAC twin-bill from visiting CCNY, by scores of 15-5 and 11-9, respectively, on Saturday at South Field.  The Lightning improve to 5-3 overall record and 3-1 in CUNYAC, while the Beavers drop to 2-13 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Lehman's offense exploded in the opener as it scored multiple runs each of the first four innings to take a 15-3 lead, also behind strong pitching by Randy Polanco who held CCNY to just four hits.  After consecutive scoreless innings by both sides, Beavers got two more runs in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit, however Chris Delgado closed the door on the mound for any possible comeback by the visitors for the Lightning 15-5 victory.

Nomar Rijo led the offense Lehman going two-for-three, with homer, two runs scored and four RBI, while Jeremmy Santos added three RBI as went two-for-four from the plate.

In the nightcap, CCNY had a 4-1 advantage going into the bottom of fourth inning, before Lehman's offense sparked again putting in six runs to reclaim the lead (7-4).

After the Beavers once again rallied to cut the deficit to a single run (7-6) by the bottom of the sixth, the Lightning scored four more times to increase their lead (11-4).
CCNY continued to cut the deficit by adding three more runs in the top of seventh (11-9), however, Ranssel Pinedo came in relief with two outs and got the last batter to earn save of the season.

Justin Nunez went two-for-three with four RBI, while Pichardo had three RBI as he went one-for-three and David Torres pitched first four innings to earn the victory on the mound.

Lehman returns to action next Tuesday with a non-conference match-up at Manhattanville College as the first pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
