The Lehman College Women's Tennis squad defeated CUNYAC rival Brooklyn (1-5:1-4) 5-4 in women's tennis this afternoon in a match played on the APEX Courts. The victory gives the Lightning (2-3:2-0) a 2-0 mark in conference play as Lehman sits in first place in the standings.
The Lightning held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play. The duo of Viola Avdyli and Caroline Lopez prevailed 8-1 at first doubles. The third doubles squad of Faith Fidele and Misty Khadija won their match 8-4.
In singles play Avdyli, playing in the number spot prevailed at love while Lopez, playing out of the two hole, won 6-2, 6-4. With the match all even at 4-4, Lehman relied on its lone senior Charlee Stallings in the number 4 spot to hold on in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-3) to secure the victory.
The Lightning look to continue their winning ways on Monday afternoon as they travel to the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows to battle John Jay at 4 PM.
