Baseball Top St. Joseph’s-NY In 16-15 Thriller

Bronx, N.Y. – Short stop Ryan Rosa's sacrifice fly with the bases load in the bottom of the ninth scored teammate Kevin Arias from third base for the 16-15 thrilling victory for the Lehman College baseball team over visiting St. Joseph's University-NY in a non-conference encounter on Wednesday at South Field.  The Lightning go to a 5-17 overall record, while the Bears drop to a 10-17 mark.

After St. Joseph's-NY took a 6-0 lead in the second inning, Lehman rebounded and scored 13 runs in the next three innings to take a 13-6 advantage.  The Bears battled back with seven runs in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth for a 15-13 advantage.  However, the Lightning had one more chance in the bottom half of the ninth in which they crossed the plate three times for the victory.

Catcher Nomar Rijo led the Lehman offense going three-for-five with a homer, two runs scored and five RBI, while left fielder Glennd Jarrin had three RBI as he went three-for-six with two runs scored.  First baseman Ranssel Pinedo was four-for-five from the plate and scored twice with two RBI, while center fielder Patrick Ortiz also drove in two runs.

Prior to the encounter on Wednesday, the Lightning athletics department honored the 11 seniors on the squad.

Lehman is back in action on Saturday (April 29th) when it welcomes CCNY in a CUNYAC twin-bill at South Field with the first pitch set for noon.
