Bronx, N.Y. – Three Lehman College softball members claimed 2023 CUNYAC Honors on Tuesday as outfielder
Lizbeth Perez and shortstop Patria (Patty) Sanchezwas named to the all-star teams, while infielder
Taina Santamaria earned the Sportsmanship Award.
The Lightning (8-16), who are scheduled to conclude its regular reason on Thursday with a non-conference twin-bill against York College-NY, are led by Perez who started in 21 of 22 games and batted .500 which is second in CUNYAC.
The two-time all-star Perez has crossed the plate 28 times, while posting 23 RBI this season. The Bronx native, who was named CUNYAC Player of the Week (5/8), is also second in the conference with four home runs and 18 stolen bases.
Newcomer, Sanchez was a mainstay in the Lightning infield. The first-year student batted .413 with an OPS of 1.138 and a slugging percentage of .619. She ranked third on the team in hits, runs scored,and doubles and ranked second RBI while leading the team in base on balls.
Santamaria gets the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Accolades after starting all 24 games this season for Lehman. The Bronx native has amassed 14 hits, while scoring 15 times and driving in five.
