Bronxville, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's and women's swimming teams opened the season with a non-conference split match-up against the hosts Sarah Lawrence College at the Campbell Sports Center on Saturday as the men's side won 86-27, while the women's team lost 130-22.
The Lightning men won eight individual events on Saturday as they were led by
Roger Sanchez as he claimed gold in the 50 Freestyle (22.99), 200 Freestyle (1:54.70), 500 Freestyle (5:31.28) and 100 Butterfly (58.35).
Romulo Valadez also finished first for Lehman in the 100 Backstroke (1:13.72), 100 Breaststroke (1:20.29) and 200 IM (2:41.02), while
Ronald Sanchez took gold in the 100 Freestyle (51.18).
The highlight for the Lightning women were
Amya Sanchez and
Arlene Suzana as they each took home silver and bronze in the 200 IM (3:01.86), 100 Backstroke (1:16.36) and 100 Breaststroke (1:27.68) and 100 Freestyle (1:04.90), respectively.
Abena Abankwa also captured the bronze in the 200 Freestyle (4:35.44) for Lehman.
The Lightning are back in action on Wednesday (October 30th) when they travel to Maritime College for a non-conference affair at 6 pm ET.
