The Lehman College men's basketball team dropped an 80-73 OT decision to Purchase (1-0) this afternoon.
Kai Parris and Kofi Mends led the way for the Lightning (2-2) who played their second overtime game of the season and now stand at 2-2 overall. This was the Panthers opening game of the 24-25 campaign.
Lehman jumped out to an 11 point lead (16-5), six and half minutes into the contest and held the Panthers at bay taking a 39-29 lead into the locker room at halftime. However, the Panthers went on an 11-0 run to start the second and briefly took the lead 40-39. Lehman did not surrender the lead until the 8:51 mark when the Panthers Tyler Bond drained a three pointer to make the score 54-53. A pair of Parris free throws quickly gave the Lightning the lead back which they did not surrender. With only a second to play in regulation the Panthers were at the foul line shooting two but were unable to secure the victory and the game went to OT. With the game tied at 71 late in the extra period, Purchase scored five straight points to take control. After cutting the deficit to three (76-73), the Lightning were forced to foul and Purchase converted 4-4 free throws in the waning seconds to preserve the victory.
The Lightning return to action on Tuesday night as they host St. Joseph's - Brooklyn at 7 pm in the APEX.
