Jamaica, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team won a pair of CUNYAC matches, in three sets, on Saturday as it defeated both CCNY (25-22, 25-23, 25-13) and hosts York College-NY (25-16, 25-15, 25-17) at the YC Gymnasium.
The Lightning (5-8, 3-2 CUNYAC), which ended a nine-match head-to-head losing streak against the CCNY Beavers (5-6; 2-3 CUNYAC), had the first set leveled at 10-10 midway through. Lehman went on a 15 to 12 run to take the opening set. Then, the Lightning won the next two sets to claim the match and their first victory against the Beavers since 2018.
Ray Rodriguez led the Lehman offense against CCNY with eight kills and 17 digs, while
Amir Pepic also had eight kills.
In the nightcap, Lehman won the first two sets over York-NY (0-8; 0-4 CUNYAC), before it trailed early, 3-1, in the third set. The Lightning then outscored the Cardinals 24 to 14 to claim the match. Rodriguez once again pace the Lehman attack with nine kills and 11 digs, while
Neithan Pilay and
Alain Abreu Esteva notched five kills each.
Lehman returns to action on Tuesday (March 5th) when it hosts a twin-bill at The APEX Main Gym when it faces CUNYAC rival Brooklyn College at 6 pm ET and then non-conference opponent Pratt Institute at 8 pm ET.
