Box Score Bronxville, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's tennis team won its first match of the 2024 season after defeating hosts Sarah Lawrence College, 5-2, in a non-conference encounter, on Thursday evening at SL Courts. The Lightning go to a 1-2 overall record, while the Gryphons drop to a 1-1 mark.
Lehman commenced taking two of three doubles encounters against Sarah Lawrence. Lightning duo of
Viola Avdyli and
Caroline Lopez won #1 doubles match-up, 6-2, over Gryphons' team of Neomi Spellman and Josephine Jackson.
Gabriela Vargas and
Elizabeth Nlemchukwu were victorious 6-3 for Lehman in #2 doubles action against Sarah Lawrence's Zoe Kovac and Caroline He.
Lehman top singles #1-Avdyli and #2-Lopez also won their encounters against Spellman (6-0, 6-1) and Kovac (3-6, 6-1, 6-4), respectively, while Nlemchukwu triumphed in #3 singles (6-1, 6-2) over He.
Lightning's
Fernanda Navarrete also claimed #5 singles, 6-4, 6-0, over Hiba Raiz, while
Shelby Gonzalez was victorious in #6 singles, 6-4, 6-4, against Rebecca Stearns.
Lehman is back in action on Saturday (September 14th) when it hosts St. Joseph's University-LI, in a non-conference match-up, at The APEX Tennis Courts, at noon.
