Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team picked up a pair of CUNYAC victories at home as it defeated York College-NY, 3-2 (25-18, 25-15, 24-26, 22-25, 15-4) and CCNY, 3-1 (25-10, 25-27, 25-11 25-22) at The APEX Main Gym.
The Lightning (10-2; 3-2 CUNYAC) took a 2-0 set lead over York-NY Cardinals (3-7; 1-3 CUNYAC) in the opening conference match of the day. However, York-NY battled back and took sets three and four to force the match into the fifth set. Lehman claimed the fifth set to win the match.
Almir Pepic led the Lightning offense with a 'double-double' (16 kills, 10 digs), while
Emmanuel Cochran also notched a 'double-double' (10 kills, 10 digs) with five service aces and blocks.
In the nightcap, Lehman took the first set before the CCNY Beavers (2-10; 1-4 CUNYAC) claimed the second set to tie the match. The Lightning bounced back and won the next two sets for the victory. Pepic had another 'double-double' (17 kills, 11 digs) for Lehman, while Cochran registered 11 kills, four service aces and three blocks.
Ray Rodriguez added nine kills and 17 digs, while
Christian Agudo dished out 29 assists and
Levi Rosario grabbed 10 digs.
The Lightning will continue their home stand when they take on St. Joseph's University-NY and CUNYAC rival Brooklyn College at The APEX Main Gym on Tuesday (March 4th) at 5:30 pm ET and 7:30 pm ET, respectively.
