Baseball Lose Twin-Bill To Maine-PI

Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team lost a non-conference twin-bill (9-2, 16-14) to University of Maine-Presque Isle on Sunday at South Field.  The Lightning go to an 0-6 overall record, while the Owls improved to a 3-1 mark.

In the opener, Maine-PI took a 2-0 lead after three innings before Lehman cut the advantage in half in the fourth.  The Owls then scored five unanswered in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh to take the first encounter of the doubleheader. Leftfielder Elias Fermin led the Lightning offense going two-for-four, while shortstop Ryan Rosa and first baseman Juan Maldonado each crossed home plate.

In the nightcap, Lehman jumped out to a 4-1 advantage early and continued to and runs despite Maine-PI cutting the lead through six innings of play.  In the top of the seventh, the Lightning held a 13-12 edge, however the Owls notched four runs to take the lead.  Lehman added a run in the bottom half of the inning however Maine-PI held on for the victory.  Rosa was two-for-four with a homer and five RBI for the Lightning, while Juan Maldonado was four-for-four with three runs scored and three RBI.  Fermin also hit a home run while scoring four times and driving in two RBI, while centerfielder Kevin Arias smacked a round-tripper with two RBI.

Lehman will look for its first victory since May 9, 2023, when it hosts University of Valley Forge, in a non-conference twin-bill, at South Field with first pitch set for 2 pm ET.
