Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team dropped a CUNYAC twin-bill to visiting John Jay College (20-7, 10-3) at South Field on Friday. The Lightning go to a 1-22 overall record and 0-10 in conference play, while the Bloodhounds improved to a 14-14 mark and 7-1 in CUNYAC action.
John Jay jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings in the opener, before Lehman got four runs in the third to the advantage to five. Then, the Bloodhounds outscored the Lightning 11 to 3 for the victory. First baseman
Juan Maldonado went two-for-four with two runs scored and an RBI for Lehman, while second baseman
Argenis Sanchez was two-for-three and scored twice.
In the nightcap, the Bloodhounds had a 6-0 advantage after three innings, before the Lightning cut the deficit in half by scoring three times in the fourth. Then, John Jay added a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to complete the doubleheader sweep. Maldonado was two-for-four with a run scored and RBI for Lehman, while designated hitter
Elias Fermin was two-for-three with an RBI and right fielder
Brandon Deynes also had an RBI as he went two-for-four.
The Lightning will be back in action next Tuesday (April 29th) when it has its regular season home finale at South Field against non-conference opponent St. Joseph's University-NY with first pitch set for 4 pm ET.
