Men’s Soccer Tie New Jersey City

Bronx, N.Y. – For the first time since 2019, the Lehman College men's soccer team opened its first five games of the season with an unbeaten record after playing to a 1-1 draw with visiting New Jersey City University, in a non-conference encounter, on Thursday evening at South Field. The Lightning improved to a 3-0-2 overall record, while the Gothic Knights go to a 2-4-2 mark.

Lehman got on board first in the 12th minute when a handball by New Jersey City inside the 18-yard box resulted in a penalty kick goal by forward Cyrus Blake.

In the second half, the Gothic Knights notched the equalizer when forward Augusto Vieira scored off an assist from teammate Dom Celi Jr. in the 54th minute.

The Lightning had three key chances in the final two minutes to score the game-winner against the Gothic Knights. Defender Lance Brdaric and midfielder Adam Kowalski notched consecutive headers that both hit the cross bar. Then, with less than 30 seconds remaining, forward Ashraf Abubakar had the last opportunity for Lehman, but his one-on-one shot was saved for a corner kick by New Jersey City goalkeeper Camilo Pascual Verdu.

The Lightning return to action next Wednesday (September 24th) when they travel to Union, N.J. to take on Kean University, in a non-conference match-up, at 7:30 pm ET.
