Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's and women's swimming teams hosted SUNY Maritime College and York College on Wednesday evening at the Apex Aquatic Center for a tri-meet. The Lehman women defeated York 91-13 while the Lehman men prevailed 66-20. The Lightning were not as fortunate vs the Privateers of Maritime falling 120-24 (men) and 94-59 (women).
The Lehman women were led by Gisley Velez and Amya Sanchez. Velez won the 200 freestyle in a time of 3:00.96 while Sanchez was the fastest in the pool in the 200 Individual medley with a time of 2:59.76. Shanchez also finished second in the 100 freestyle in a time of 1:04.94. Velez also finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:46.01. Shivani Raghuthu posted a 1:50.61 in the 100 yard butterfly. The 200 yard freestyle relay squad of Sanchez, Velez, Xhesika Malecaj, and Mariella Nunez also earned a first place in at ime of 2:16.49. ,
On the men's side, Lehman was highlighted by its victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Steven Perez, Joseph Fernandez, Mohammad Noori, and Andrew Damaso taking first place, clocked in in a time of 2:16.06.. Fernandez also added individual points in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, while Brahian Rosario-Ortiz contributed with multiple freestyle efforts.
The Lightning will return to action on January 16th, when they face Baruch College in a dual meet scheduled for 2 PM ET at the APEX Swimming Pool.
