Jorge Named Associate Athletics Director

Bronx, N.Y. – Karina Jorge has been named Associate Athletics Director for Lehman College, as it was announced by Ryan McCarthy, Director of Athletics and APEX Facilities.   He went on to say, "We are elated for an individual with Karina's experience and character to join our team. Her superb experience in Division III and CUNYAC compliance, administration, and leadership make her uniquely equipped to excel in this role."  

Jorge joins the Lightning staff after spending over 20 years at City College of New York (CCNY).  She was a vital part of CCNY athletic administration and known for her unwavering commitment to student-athlete success and institutional integrity. She served as both Interim Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, leading CCNY's efforts to uphold NCAA Division III and CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) standards.

Named Interim Director of Athletics in the fall of 2024, she guided the department through a period of transition and uncertainty, providing steady and collaborative leadership while ensuring continuity for student-athletes, staff, and the broader CCNY community. In her compliance role, Jorge oversees academic eligibility certification, institutional NCAA reporting, compliance education for coaches and staff, and the development of department policies that promote accountability and competitive excellence. 

In 2009, Jorge served as the college's Senior Woman Administrator (SWA), championing gender equity and inclusive participation in collegiate athletics. She plays a vital role in executive decision-making, strategic planning, and advocacy efforts that elevate the voices of women in sports.

Jorge began her CCNY career in 2002 as Sports Information Director, successfully raising the profile of the college's athletics program through innovative communications and community outreach. 

Beyond CCNY, Jorge is active in regional and national athletics governance. She has served numerous committees, including the NCAA Division III Regional Rules Seminars Foundational Group, the Women's Volleyball and Women's Soccer Regional Advisory Committees, and CUNYAC's Transfer Eligibility and Awards Committees. Her dedication has earned her several accolades from the Athletic Alumni Group, CUNYAC, and CCNY's Athletic Department.

An alumna of the NCAA Division III Institute for Administrative Advancement and a 2019 participant in the NCAA Senior Woman Administrator Program, Jorge continues to be recognized as a national leader in collegiate athletics.

A two-time CCNY alumna, she earned a B.A. in Management and Administration in 2004 and a second degree in Electronic Design and Multimedia in 2011. As a former varsity volleyball player at CCNY, Jorge brings firsthand student-athlete experience to her leadership. 

Originally from the Dominican Republic, Jorge is guided by the values of resilience, community, and service. She lives in the Bronx with her two children, Alexander Emmanuel and Emma Sofia.
