Vargas and Ndiaye Earn CUNYAC Women’s Tennis Honors

Gabriela Vargas and Awa Ndiaye received post season recognition from the CUNYAC Tennis Coaches earlier today. Vargas was selected as a Second Team All-Conference selection while Ndiaye was named the conference's Sportsmanship Award recipient.

Ndiaye a sophomore is a graduate of the High School for Environmental Studies. According to head Coach Jeff Nerenberg, "Ndiaye joined the team last season as a player with limited high school experience. Her positive attitude and constant smile made her a popular member of the squad. In several matches this year her sense of fair play was evident. She often would change a line call in favor of her opponent if the call by the other team was incorrect. In many cases the opposing coach would tell me that Ndiaye played the game the right way, hard and fair. She always does her best to win, but is the first team member to go over the opponent and coach to congratulate them. She is a true and generous sportswoman."

Vargas, a native of Patterson and graduate of Carmel High School, played number one for Lehman all season. Despite her sub .500 record the conference coaches recognized her ability and named her Second Team All-Conference selection.
