Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team posted consecutive three set home victories, on Thursday evening, against CUNYAC rival Medgar Evers College (25-3, 25-6, 25-7) and then non-conference opponent Yeshiva University (25-18, 25-14, 26-24), The APEX Main Gym.
In the opener, the Lightning (5-7; 2-1 CUNYAC) took the first set before the Medgar Evers Cougars (0-4; 0-2 CUNYAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the third. However, Lehman went on 25 to 4 run to win the set and then claimed the third to capture the conference match.
Oscar Calderon led the way for the Lightning with eight kills, while
Jordan Johnson registered five kills and
Eric Line dished out nine assists with four kills.
Alain Abreu Esteva also had four kills and recorded six service aces.
In the nightcap, Lehman won the first two sets over Yeshiva (0-6). However, the Maccabees battled in the third set and had a 20-19 advantage, before the Lightning outscored them 7 to 4 to take the match. Johnson notched 11 kills for Lehman, while
Nathaniel Matthie posted a 'double-double' as he dished out 29 assists and grabbed 12 digs.
Enea Doci added nine kills, while Abreu Esteva posted eight kills, seven digs and five service aces.
Lehman will look to extend its winning streak to four matches when it hosts University of Valley Forge, in a non-conference encounter, at The APEX Main Gym on Saturday (February 21st) with first serve set for 11 am ET.
