Yaphank, N.Y. – The Lightning dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader to SUNY Canton on Saturday afternoon at Lasorda Legacy Park, falling 11-0 in Game 1 and 17-2 in Game 2.
In the opener, the Lightning were held off the scoreboard as SUNY Canton secured the 11-0 victory.
Game 2 saw the Lightning break through offensively in the third inning. Steven Santos reached base and later came around to score, followed by Leniel Rivera crossing the plate to give the Lightning an early lead. The scoring play came off the bat of Brandon Deynes, who delivered a clutch two-RBI single to drive in both runs and provide a spark for the offense. Despite taking a 2-1 lead in the third inning, the Lightning ultimately fell 17-2.
The Lightning now turn their focus to their next matchup on Tuesday, March 24, when they travel to Pomona, New York to take on St. Joseph's University Brooklyn at Clover Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time as the Lightning aim to get on board and build momentum moving forward.
