Baseball Sweep Twin-Bill Against John Jay

Bronx, N.Y. – For the first time since 2023, the Lehman College baseball team swept a twin-bill as it defeated visiting John Jay College, 10-9, 11-6, in CUNYAC action at South Field on Friday.  The Lightning improved to a 2-15 overall record and 2-2 in conference play, while the Bloodhounds dropped to a 1-20 mark and 0-2 in CUNYAC action.

Lehman ended a 28-game losing streak after it trailed 9-6 at the end of the fifth inning and then posted consecutive two runs in the sixth and seventh, respectively, for the victory in the doubleheader opener.  Designated hitter Brandon Deynes led the Lightning offense going two-for-four with a run scored and three RBI, while outfielder Hecnel Guzman had a homer and two RBI.  DeShawn Ansah-Pena pitched a complete game with six strikeouts for the win.

In the nightcap, Lehman held a 5-4 lead after five and a half innings of action, when it scored three runs bottom part of the inning and then added three more in the sixth to pace its way to a twin-bill sweep of John Jay.  Outfielder Argenis Sanchez was two-for-two with a run scored and three RBI for the Lightning, while Guzman notched two-run homer and Deynes was three-for-four with two runs scored and an RBI.  David Torres had six strong innings on the mound with two strikeouts for the victory.
