LIGHTNING STAY HOT, TURN BACK COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE 8-1 AT APEX TENNIS COURTS

The Lehman College women's tennis team (4-8 Overall, 3-2 CUNYAC) picked up a non-conference victory on Monday afternoon in impressive fashion as the Lightning defeated the College of New Rochelle by a score of 8-1 at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx.

Lehman came out of the gate ready to play, sweeping doubles competition. At No. 1 doubles, the Lightning's standout combination of Evauna Neville and Aurora Peters downed New Rochelle's pairing of Christina Locke and Siddiqua Hussein by a score of 8-2. No. 2 doubles saw Lehman's Gabriela Harewood and Amaia Liriano turn back the Blue Angels' duo of Olga Miedzybrozka and Amanda DeFrancesco 8-3, and in the most exciting doubles contest of the day, the Lightning's Mina Jeung and Juyoung Kwon defeated New Rochelle's Melody Wang and Sonia Daniels at No. 3 doubles, 9-7.

The Lightning carried the momentum of their doubles sweep into singles competition as Lehman captured five of the six singles matches. At No. 1 singles, Neville continued her stellar season as she defeated New Rochelle's Locke 6-0, 6-0. In a grueling No. 2 singles set, Peters outlasted Hussein 6-4, 7-5, and the Lightning also claimed victory at No. 3 set singles when Harewood turned back DeFrancesco 6-2, 6-2. Jeung and Dalia Rodriguez earned singles victories for the Lightning at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively, and the Blue Angels' lone victory of the day came at No. 5 singles when Daniels knocked off Liriano 6-2, 6-3. Following the match, Head Coach Zack Davis was very pleased his team's effort.

“We've been playing much better, and we've won three of our last five matches so this team is coming together at the right time,” Davis said. “I'm very proud of our veterans, and our younger players are feeding off of their energy. Hopefully we can keep this up down the stretch of this season.”

Prior to the game, it was announced that the Lightning will take on the Medgar Evers Cougars at the APEX Tennis Courts this Thursday afternoon, with match time scheduled for 2:00pm. The match was originally postponed earlier in the season due to inclement weather.
