LEHMAN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER CLUB TEAM DROPS CONTEST TO ST. JOSEPH'S (LI)

The Lehman College men's soccer club team is still searching for its first victory of its 2008 exhibition season, as the Lightning fell to St. Joseph's College of Long Island on the first day of the St. Joseph's Long Island Tournament by a score of 10-1 Saturday afternoon in Patchogue, NY. With the loss, the Lightning fell to 0-3, as the unit will play in the consolation game of the tournament tomorrow afternoon against New York City College of Technology at 1pm.

The highlight performer of the day for the Golden Eagles was Adam Rogers, as he netted five goals for his squad, including three in the first half. In addition to his five tallies, St. Joseph's Long Island also got two goals and an assist from Frank Mancuso. Both players helped pace the Golden Eagles and lead them to the championship game of the tournament, as they will face Kean University on Sunday at 3pm. The Cougars defeated the Yellow Jackets 4-0 to advance to the championship game of the tourney.

Despite the loss for the Lightning, the team did receive a goal from Daniel Brentuo off a corner kick in the second half. Sebastien Szymkowiak got credited with the assist on the play. Following the loss, Lehman College Head Coach Joseph Real Andre' said he hopes the team can bounce back.

“Sometimes competing in tournaments like these can help you mold into a team that you eventually aspire to be,” he said. “Despite the fact that we lost today, I still believe our guys are working hard and want to continue to improve.”
