WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SPLITS PAIR OF CUNYAC MATCHES ON MONDAY MORNING

The Lehman College women's volleyball team (7-11 Overall, 4-3 CUNYAC) split a pair of CUNYAC matches on Columbus Day at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York, NY, falling to the Baruch College Bearcats (16-4 Overall, 6-1 CUNYAC) by scores of 20-25, 19-25, and 13-25 before bouncing back to defeat the Cougars of Medgar Evers College (3-13 Overall, 2-5 CUNYAC) by scores of 25-16, 25-13, and 25-14. The Lightning currently sit in fourth place in the conference standings and are closing in on a potential quarterfinal round home game in the upcoming CUNYAC tournament.

 

In Lehman's defeat at the hands of the Bearcats, Gerri-Ann Martin put forth another quality performance, tallying a team-high 10 kills to go along with nine digs while hitting .219. Ashley Meany contributed five kills and six digs, Lisa Jagdeo recorded a match-high 33 assists, and Jillian Acevedo contributed with a match-high 17 digs. As a team, the Lightning hit just .032 for the match while Baruch College hit at a clip of .270.

 

Leading the way for Baruch College in the Bearcats' victory was Lauren Hayden who contributed a match-high 16 kills to go along with two solo blocks. Melinda Santiago added a team-high 30 assists to go along with 11 digs, and Posey Wilson had 12 digs.

 

The Lightning bounced back from the loss to Baruch College with an impressive victory over the Cougars. Gerri-Ann Martin and Racine Brown each had a team-high of eight kills, and Meany had seven kills, five digs, and five service aces. Jagdeo once again put forth a quality performance with a team-high 33 assists to go along with six digs. Jennifer Winkler added six kills and five digs, and Acevedo added 17 digs and five service aces. The Lightning hit .346 for the match while Medgar Evers hit - .023.

 

Lehman College will return to action on Thursday evening as the Lightning take to the road to battle the Mariners of USMMA King's Point in a non-conference match, with start time scheduled for 7:00pm.
