The Lehman College women's volleyball team (7-14 Overall, 4-3 CUNYAC) dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Rams of SUNY Farmingdale by scores of 23-25, 25-16, 26-28, 25-21, 7-15 and the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College of Long Island by scores of 14-25, 23-25, 25-22, 26-24, 11-15 in Patchogue, NY.
In their first match of the day, the Lightning rallied from one set deficits twice before falling in the fifth set and dropping the match. Despite the loss to the Rams, standout Gerri-Ann Martin tallied a match-high 24 kills to go along with five digs and two service aces. Lisa Jagdeo added five kills and six digs, and Jennifer Winkler had four service aces. For the match, the Lightning hit just .044.
In the victory for the Rams, SUNY Farmingdale was led by Dominique Cunningham who recorded a team-high 15 kills to go along with 11 digs. Alyssa Siegel also contributed with 24 assists and 21 digs. For the match, the Rams hit an impressive .384.
In Lehman's second match of the afternoon, the Lightning showed tremendous grit, rallying back after dropping the first two sets to capture the ensuing two sets, but the Golden Eagles would outlast Lehman in set five to take the match.
Despite Lehman's loss to St. Joseph's College (LI), the Lightning were led by Martin who contributed 24 kills and six digs. Ashley Meany added 13 kills and five digs, and Lisa Jagdeo tallied 33 assists.
For the Golden Eagles in the win, it was Brianna Meyer recording a team-high 13 kills to go along with three digs and three service aces. Marwa Elembaby had nine kills, and Natalie Czelowalnik added 33 assists.
The Lightning return to action on Sunday afternoon as Lehman will travel to Annadale-on-Hudson to battle the Bard College Raptors in a non-conference match, with start time scheduled for 2:00pm.
