WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DROPS NON-CONFERENCE CONTEST TO GOTHIC KNIGHTS OF NJCU

The Lehman College women's volleyball team (8-16, Overall, 5-3 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference match to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University (6-17 Overall, 2-6 NJAC) Thursday evening at the APEX Center by scores of 16-25, 13-25, 25-21, and 23-25.

 

Leading the way for the Gothic Knights in the victory was Tabitha Jordan as she had match-highs of 20 kills and 13 digs. Alex Johansen tallied a match-high 31 assists to go along with 14 digs. Freshman Amanda Dopico posted 21 digs in the victory as well.  The Gothic Knights recorded 48 kills on the evening and hit .151 for the match.

 

Despite the loss for the Lightning, Gerri-Ann Martin led the way for the Lehman College with team-highs of 17 kills and nine digs.  Junior libero Jillian Acevedo added 30 digs while Lisa Jagdeo recorded a team-high of 25 assists to go along with 11 digs. Jennifer Winkler also played extremely well with 14 digs and five kills. Following the loss, Lehman College head coach Wolfgang Lucena praised Winkler for her recent efforts.

 

“Jennifer has done a tremendous job in recent matches, and she really has raised her game for us,” Lucena said. “I'm extremely proud of her progression this season. She has worked diligently to improve herself and it was showed in her play on the court. As for tonight's match, I feel as though we need to play more consistently from the get-go. We'll shake this one off and come out to play on Sunday.”

 

The Lightning will return to action on Sunday afternoon as Lehman will travel to the College of New Rochelle for two non-conference matches. The Lightning will battle Yeshiva University at 3:00pm before taking on the Blue Angels of New Rochelle at 5:00pm.
