WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM SET TO BATTLE BARUCH IN CUNYAC SEMIFINAL ROUND

The Lehman College women's volleyball team will be aiming for a CUNYAC championship tomorrow at the Nat Holman Gymnasium when the No. 4 seeded Lightning take on the No. 1 seeded Bearcats of Baruch College in the semifinal round of the 2009 CUNYAC Women's Volleyball Tournament. Start-time for the match is slated for 3:00pm.

The Lightning advanced to the semifinals by defeating the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in the quarterfinals this past Tuesday evening at the APEX Center by scores of 25-18, 25-8, and 25-22. The victory for the surging Lightning was the team's fifth win in its last seven matches. Lehman will hope to keep that momentum going tomorrow against the mighty Bearcats. Lightning head coach Wolfgang Lucena knows Baruch College poses a challenge for his hungry squad.

“The Bearcats are a team that knows how to win,” he said. “They are the No. 1 overall seed for a reason. On the flip side, we're heading into this match a very confident bunch. We need to play our game, pace ourselves, and not try to do too much. We have to take it point by point and execute. We certainly will leave it all on the court.”

In their lone meeting this season back on October 12th, the Bearcats defeated the Lightning in three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-19, and 25-14. The Bearcats hit .270 in the contest and recorded 35 assists on the evening while Lehman managed to hit .032 while recording 22 assists.

Should Lehman defeat Baruch College in the semifinals, the Lightning will then take on the winner of the other semifinal battle which includes a tussle with the number 2 seeded Beavers of the City College of New York and the No. 3 seeded Hawks of Hunter College. The CUNYAC championship game is slated for 8:00pm.

Admission to the CUNYAC semifinal matches sub sequential championship match is free. Lightning fans are encouraged to come out and support their favorite team in their bid to capture a CUNYAC title!
