WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO BEARCATS IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE; CUNYAC QUARTERS NEXT

The Lehman College women's basketball team (16-9 Overall, 10-3 CUNYAC) dropped its regular season finale, falling to the Baruch College Bearcats (20-5 Overall, 13-0 CUNYAC) by a score of 80-46 Friday evening at the ARC Arena in New York, NY. The loss by the Lightning snapped the team's eight- game winning streak.

 

The Bearcats came out hitting on all cylinders in the victory, as Baruch connected on 42.6 percent of their shots (29-68) while knocking down a whopping 48.3 percent of their attempts from downtown (14-29). The Lightning struggled to get into a rhythm, hitting on only 26.6 percent of their attempts (17-64) while knocking down just seven of 33 from beyond the arc.

 

In the victory for Baruch College, junior forward Kalea Davis led the way by posting a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. In addition, freshman guard Shade Rice scored a game-high 17 points (6-9 FG) while dishing two assists. Sophomore guard Monique Salmon also put forth a fine effort with eight points and a game-high 10 assists. With the victory, Baruch solidified a perfect regular season conference record for the second time in the last three seasons.

 

Despite the loss for the Lightning, junior sharpshooter Kelsey Ash led the way for Lehman with 15 points (four three-pointers) to go along with four assists and two steals. Senior center Whittney Barnes added nine points and nine rebounds, and junior point guard Tonisha Kirby scored seven points and dished five assists.

 

The Lightning, who will go into the CUNYAC tournament as the No. 3 seed, will have seven days off before returning to action on Saturday, February 21st as the team will host a quarterfinal round playoff game at the APEX Center, with game-time against the No. 6 seeded Hawks of Hunter College scheduled for 2:00pm. Lehman and Hunter met twice this season, with the Lightning winning both contests. As always, admission for the playoff game and all of Lehman home contests is free.
