Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

The Lehman College softball team (0-2 Overall, 0-0 CUNYAC) started off their 2009 season Thursday afternoon, dropping a pair of non-conference contests to the Panthers of SUNY Purchase (2-0 Overall, 0-0 Skyline) by scores of 22-0 and 17-0 at the South Field in the Bronx.

In game one of the afternoon, the Lightning were only able to manage two hits off of Purchase starter Emily Stanley who recorded the victory by pitching four scoreless innings and striking out four batters while only walking one. Lehman starter as newcomer Kristen LoBianco took the loss for the Lightning in her debut with the team.

The opener saw Purchase score four times in the first inning, seven more times in the second and 11 times in the third to account for all of their scoring for the contest. Leading the way offensively for the Panthers was Kiersten Morsanutto who went 3-for-4 with two homeruns, a double, four runs scored and five runs batted in. Lehman's three hits were singles by Lakeisha Gordon, Arleni Ulloa, and Whittney Barnes.

In the second game of the afternoon, Panthers starter Lindsay Froman received the victory and pitched a five inning no-hitter, walking three batters and striking out five while not allowing a run. Lehman hurler Victoria McMahon pitched five innings and took the loss for the Lightning. SUNY Purchase scored at least two runs in every inning, and did their most damage in the second and third frames, scoring six and five runs in those innings, respectively.

Offensively for SUNY Purchase in game two, it was Stanley putting forth a tremendous effort, going 2-for-3 with four runs scored and an RBI. Megan LaLonde also went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Lightning will look to bounce back next Thursday afternoon as the team travels to SUNY Old Westbury for a non-conference doubleheader, with the action getting underway at 4:00pm.
