SOFTBALL'S SEASON COMES TO AN END WITH FIRST ROUND PLAYOFF LOSS TO BARUCH

The No. 3 seeded Baruch College Bearcats defeated No. 6 seeded Lightning of Lehman College, 9-0, in a CUNY Athletic Conference first round playoff game on Wednesday afternoon at the South Field in the Bronx. The Beacats served as the home squad on Lehman's field.

 

For Baruch College, Melissa Pena led the offense by batting 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Michelle Runko, Gisell Alix and Melissa Mejia each had two hits as part of the team's 11 total hits on the afternoon.

 

Andrea Tepfer, Cristina Arce and Lynn Schiano combined to pitch a two-hitter to help the Bearcats advance to the double-elimination stage of the tournament on Friday afternoon at Queens College.

 

Lakeisha Gordon and Monique Sampson each recorded a hit for Lehman College. The Lightning had a chance to score a run in the fourth inning with runners in second and third base and only one out, but could not get a run across the plate.

 

Lehman finalized their 2009 season with a 3-28 record.
