The Lehman College women's tennis team (5-4 Overall, 2-2 CUNYAC) won their second consecutive match as the Lightning defeated the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island (3-7 Overall, 2-2 CUNYAC) by a score of 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at the CSI Tennis Center.
The Lightning dominated the Dolphins in doubles action, capturing all three doubles sets. At No. 1 doubles, the consistent combination of Evauna Neville and Aurora Peters continued their tremendous showing as a team this season as they turned back CSI's Gabriella Villarruel and Fabiana Iannuzzi by a score of 8-2. In the most competitive doubles match of the afternoon, Lehman's Gabrela Harewood and Natalee Smith outlasted the Dolphins' duo of Taylor Moran and Qing Li 8-6. Finally, at No. 3 doubles, it was Heoe Eun Kwon and Melissa Hemick defeating Staten Island's Nancy Almazo and Yelena Rasporskaya 8-3.
No. 1 singles saw the Dolphins' Villarruel defeat Neville, 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 in an intense contest. It was all Lehman from there though in singles play. No. 2 singles saw Peters defeat Moran, 6-4, 6-1. Harewood turned back Iannuzzi 6-0, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. No. 4 singles saw Hemick down Li 6-3, 6-3. Kwon outlasted Rasporskaya 6-1, 1-6, 10-5 at No. 5 singles, and at No. 6 singles, it was Ibric silencing Almazo, 6-2, 6-2.
Lehman will return to action Friday afternoon as the Lightning battle the Baruch College Bearcats in a CUNYAC match, with start time at the APEX Tennis Courts scheduled for 3:30pm.
