The Lehman College men's basketball team (4-11 Overall, 1-3 CUNYAC) dropped a tough non-conference contest on Monday evening at the APEX Center, falling to the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights (6-6 Overall, 2-1 NJAC) by a score of 68-58 in the Bronx. The loss was the Lightning's third straight defeat.
In the victory for the Gothic Knights, New Jersey City University was led by Josh Lopez who put on a show, dropping in a game-high 27 points to go along with four steals and three assists in 32 minutes of action. The guard connected on nine of his 16 attempts from the field. Isaiah Johnson added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Walik Albright added 10 points and a pair of assists. The Gothic Knights out-rebounded the Lightning 45-37, and NJCU won the turnover battle, committing 14 miscues while forcing 21 Lehman mistakes.
Despite the loss for the Lightning, veteran Jonathan DeJesus put together a strong evening as he posted a double-double, netting 15 points, snatching 14 rebounds, and dishing a pair of assists. Role player Quaseem Weems drained a pair of three-point baskets and finished with 10 points and a pair of rebounds, and Xavier Garvin netted 17 points and snatched four rebounds.
The Lightning will return to action on Friday evening as Lehman College will travel to Baruch's ARC Arena for a rematch of last year's CUNYAC semifinal round contest. Game-time is scheduled for 7:30pm.
